Tribute to Prince with holographic tribute

Holographic tribute to Prince at Super Bowl half time

The singer’s 12 minute performance including a holographic tribute received mixed reviews on social media.

Justin Timberlake returned to the Super Bowl halftime show stage for the third time in his career on Sunday night.

After a shaky start with poor audio as he sung new single Filthy, the US singer eventually got back on track to launch into a slew of his greatest solo hits from his nearly 20-year music career over a 12-minute set.

Justin, 37, had a huge team of backing dancers who followed him out onto the field. They were later joined by an orchestra, a large brass band and a crowd of fans all clamouring to get a snap of the star.

His classics included Rock Your Body, Can’t Stop The Feeling and Sexy Back.

But any fans hoping to see Janet Jackson appear onstage after the pair’s infamous ‘nipplegate moment’, were left disappointed as the singer wasn’t joined by any other famous faces.

Towards the end of the performance, Justin also paid a holographic tribute to Prince, despite earlier calls to have the segment scrapped.

Sitting at a piano, the performer sang a medley of his hit End of Time and the late music legend’s I Would Die 4 U as footage of the singer was projected behind him.

The surrounding area of this holographic tribute was also lit up purple in a further tribute to the music icon.

Fans on social media gave a mixed reaction to the performance, with some describing it as an “amazing” show, while others were not as impressed.

“What a half time show! Justin Timberlake is a one of kind talent. That little piece with Prince was so cool for Minnesota!”

“Amazing, awesome, and beautiful #Prince tribute!”

Timberlake’s former band N’Sync also congratulated the singer on Twitter, saying: “Well done jtimberlake you killed it!”
